Nestled in a wooded grove, rooms at Marconi are spacious, private and quiet. Go to sleep under a night sky untouched by city lights and wake to the sound of birds and nature all around.
Marconi is located within a California state park with miles of hiking trails, scenic picnic spots and abundant wildlife at your fingertips.
A little known nature retreat an hour north of San Francisco
Marconi Conference Center is a hidden gem. Most people assume from the name that it’s a place to host conferences and retreats, and while that’s true, they also offer overnight accommodation in an extraordinary setting — 62 acres of state parkland, overlooking Tomales Bay and the majestic Inverness Ridge.
There really is nothing to compare it to. If you’re looking for serenity and a deep connection with nature, this is a spot not to miss. You wake in the morning, surrounded by nature, towering trees, wildlife and all that is unique to this part of the Northern California coast.
At the front desk, you can check out a volleyball, basketball, badminton gear or horseshoe equipment. There’s a large lower field where you can play. Or if wildlife and birding are more your speed, they’ll lend you binoculars and nature guides, and help you plan activities such as taking a catamaran tour of the bay, or a kayaking adventure. The kayak launch is just across the street.
There are amazing restaurants nearby, or you can drive 7 miles south along the bay on Hwy 1 to enjoy all the dining and activities that Point Reyes Station is known for. And don’t forget Point Reyes National Seashore, which is just on the other side of the bay. There you’ll see the Point Reyes Lighthouse, elephant seals, whales in migration, and herds of Tule Elk that live along the coast.
The rooms are comfortable and a good value. They come in many configurations that accomodate a couple or larger parties, and one I particularly appreciate is the loft. Some of these loft rooms have two twins downstairs and one twin in the open loft, and some have a king on the bottom with a twin in the loft. If you want to plan a getaway in nature with your family or a group of friends, this is a fun, affordable option.
