Driving through the tiny bayside village of Inverness on your way out to the Lighthouse, tule elk preserve, or any of the hiking, wildlife and beaching in Point Reyes National Seashore — you’ll pass right by Saltwater Oyster Depot. The vibe is rustic-chic, understated and intimate. It’s a great spot to stop on a sunny day and grab a table on the patio, or get a cozy table inside and watch the fog roll by.

As the name suggests, oyster lovers will feel right at home here. But they also have a range of seafood, much of it pulled right out of our local waters. Our rolling green West Marin pastures and farms are also a source of hand-grown produce, fine dairy and pasture raised meats — all of this bounty is represented on the seasonally changing menu at Saltwater.

Oysters

Satlwater’s menu featured sustainably harvested oysters from our own beautiful Tomales Bay, Humboldt Bay and from waters further north in Washington. You can enjoy them raw with some crisp white wine or try one of their creative broiled oyster appetizers like kimchi (Korean chili, scallion, ginger + butter) or cilantro (fermented jalapeno, pepitas, garlic + butter). The broiled oysters are particularly good with one of their craft beers.

Outdoor dining

Saltwater Oyster Depot is just across the street from Tomales Bay in Inverness. They’ve got a sweet little outdoor patio dining area where you can enjoy the fresh breezes off the bay, and sunshine in the warmer months. It’s especially magical in the evenings around sunset.

The menu is always changing and features the best and freshest of the region, and particularly West Marin. They source ingredients from small local farms, even micro farms, and nurture relationships with trusted local foragers and fishermen. So you never know what treasures you’ll find on their menu.
